Artful Afternoons
Looking for a few "kid-free" hours to run errands, answer e-mails or just have some YOU time? 
Sign your child up for a Artful Afternoons at the art.smart.kids home studio located in Oak Hill, VA.
Children (ages 3-5) participate in art activities (crafts, games, creative play) in a stimulating, supportive and age-appropriate environment.
Artful Afternoons run most Wednesday afternoons from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Class fee is $25 and includes all art supplies and a healthy snack. 
You can register for as few or as many classes as you wish.  Pre-registration is required. 
Now taking registration for sessions on September 29, October 6, 13, 20, and 27.  
Cancellations must be made at least a week prior to each session or class fee must be paid.

Creative Kids! Workshops

have been added to our calendar for kids ages 6-9


Each workshop will introduce an artist...kids will learn about his/her life, work and influences.  Then, each child will create a custom piece of art inspired by the artist.


Workshops are held in the  home studio in Oak Hill, VA. 

They are 1.5 hours in length (10-11:30 am).



Workshop fee is $28 and includes all supplies.  Kids return home with a custom art piece, an @ home folio to further explore the workshops topic, and a new love of art and its history!


October 9th  Paul Klee Watercolors

Students will explore the world of Klee.  His spidery hieroglyph-like symbols, fine lines and playful geometry makes him one of the most recognizable and loved artist of the 20th century.

We will create Klee-inspired watercolor painting.


November 13 Louise Nevelson Assemblage

Students will explore the assemblage crates of the Abstract Expressionist female artist, Louise Nevelson.  Each student will design and execute a  mono-cromatic assemblage or their own.


December 4th Alberto Giacometti Sculpture

Surrealist artist Giacometti is known for his tall, attenuated sculptures of solitary figures.  Working with wire, plaster of paris  and other materials, students will create their own version of his signature sculpture.

ART EXPLORERS (ages 3-5) classes at Reston Community Center

(Lake Anne location)


Developed for preschool and kindergarten children, this process-oriented art class includes a brief history of an artist, movement or artistic medium that is explored through story time, creative play or other visual aids.   Each week Art Explorers create their own masterpieces, inspired by the artists they learn about,  using quality art supplies.  Key art elements and principles such as texture, color, balance, pattern and movement are explored though a variety of art media including painting, sculpture, collage, and more!



Fall session: September 15 to November 3


on Wednesdays from

10:00 am-11:00 am

   and from 11:15 am-12:15 pm


Registration begins on August 1st for Reston residents and on August 8th for non-residents. 


$60 for Reston residents, $120 for non-residents
